About this role
Aspirus Wausau Hospital is seeking an RN for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU). This is a 13-week contract assignment offering 3 nights per week on a 12-hour schedule, from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM, with 36 guaranteed hours per week and every other weekend and holiday rotation.
Role Overview
You will care for post-operative cardiac patients in a 44-bed intermediate cardiac stepdown unit with a typical patient ratio of 1:4. Your patient population includes post-op CABG and valve repair patients, thoracotomy cases, vascular patients, arrhythmia management, and CHF admissions. You will also manage acute chest pain and MI presentations, as well as overflow med-surg patients including those with detox needs, DKA, and COPD exacerbations. Float assignments to other inpatient units may occur based on hospital needs. The environment is fast-paced with high patient turnover.
Clinical Requirements
- Current Wisconsin RN License
- BLS certification (current)
- ACLS certification (AHA or ARC, current)
- Proficiency with Amiodarone, Cardizem, and Nitro drips
- EKG competency (must pass test in first week)
- EPIC charting experience (1 year recent)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of strong cardiac experience in a Cardiac Step-Down Unit, Intermediate Cardiac Unit, or Cardiac ICU
- Minimum 2 years in IMC, PCU, or Telemetry
- At least one prior travel assignment completed
Other Details
You must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility. Low census unbillable hours (up to 36 per week) are eligible, with potential for reduced shift hours. A clinical interview is required. Scrubs of any color are permitted. An associate degree or certificate is required; a bachelor's degree is preferred.
Compensation
Weekly pay is $2,402.64. The assignment runs 91 days, beginning July 6, 2026.
