Med Surg RN Job in Decatur, TX

You will work as an RN on the medical surgical units at Medical City Decatur, providing direct patient care on the 4th and 5th floors. This is a 91-day travel assignment starting March 16, 2026, working three 12-hour night shifts per week (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.) at $1,576.80 weekly.

Your Role

You will care for patients across 60 total beds with patient ratios of 5:1 on the Med Surg Specialty 4th Floor and 6:1 on the Med Surg 5th Floor. Your responsibilities include monitoring patients post-operatively and managing common medical surgical diagnoses. You will work with telemetry monitoring, capnography, Alaris IV pumps, glucometers, and dynamaps. The facility uses the Alterra (Allscripts) electronic medical record system.

Clinical Experience Needed

You must have telemetry and medical surgical nursing experience. Preferred skills include cardiac rhythm recognition, IV starts, and strong time management. You will encounter patients following abdominal surgeries such as cholecystectomy, appendectomy, and colectomy, as well as diagnostic procedures including paracentesis and thoracentesis. Orthopedic cases include total hip, knee, and shoulder replacements, and trauma repairs. Some patients will have undergone gastric sleeve procedures or heart catheterizations.

Unit Staffing and Float Responsibilities

On nights, each floor has one charge nurse, RNs, LVNs, and PCTs. Weekend shifts are required with no on-call responsibilities. You will float as needed to inpatient rehab, ED, or PCU without assignments outside your skill level.
