About this role
St Johns Regional Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Level 3b NICU in Oxnard, California. This is a 91-day travel assignment starting October 12, 2026, offering 3x12-hour day shifts at $2,163 per week.
Role Overview
You will provide direct patient care in a 16-bed NICU expanding to 20 beds, with typical patient ratios of 1:1 or 1:3 for feeder/grower infants. You may administer drips as required and have the opportunity to assume a charge nurse role. The unit uses Cerner for charting and Philips monitoring systems. Ventilator support includes Aveya, bubble CPAP, Vapotherm, and oscillators. Respiratory therapy and pharmacy are available 24/7.
Schedule and Expectations
Shifts run 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, with every other weekend required. You will be first to float to Labor & Delivery or postpartum to care for babies as needed on every other weekend. Holidays are coordinated with permanent staff. Floor-specific orientation takes 2 to 3 shifts.
Patient Population and Clinical Focus
Common diagnoses include all gestational ages, premature infants, sepsis, therapeutic cooling cases, and substance abuse/withdrawal presentations. Ability to attend deliveries is preferred. No ECMO services are provided; patients requiring surgery transfer out. There are no nurse aides on the unit.
Requirements
- Minimum 2 to 3 years of NICU experience with Level 3 NICU background
- Valid nursing license required
- Current BLS and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certifications
- Travel experience preferred
- Experience with therapeutic cooling preferred
- Spanish-speaking nurses preferred
- BSN not required
