Job Details:

• Provide basic nursing care to non-acute and/or acutely ill patients and residents while maintaining a safe and clean environment
• React calmly and make sound judgments within scope of duties during patient care and emergencies
• Regularly lift non-ambulatory patients and residents as required by the role
• Maintain a caring attitude when interacting with acute and non-acute patients, residents, and families
• Complete nursing assignments and respond to patient call lights in a fast-paced environment
• Accept delegation from supervising Licensed Nurse (LN)
• Obtain nursing data through interviewing and observing residents under LN direction
• Document observation findings consistent with other providers under LN supervision
• Provide general nursing care including bed baths, oral hygiene, hair care, back care, dressing patients, and application of heat/cold appliances
• Apply anti-embolism stockings or sequential compression devices (SCDs)
• Monitor and record temperature, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, blood sugar, pulse oximetry, and intake/output measurements
• Collect and transport specimens to appropriate departments
• Distinguish between normal and abnormal findings and report abnormal findings to the LN
• Report and record changes in patient/resident condition, behavior, or unusual incidents
• Provide bedside care including positioning, lifting, turning, and assisting with bedpan, urinal, or commode use
• Ambulate residents and transport to and from various departments as required
• Assist residents with meals or feed residents as needed
• Aid in handling and care of residents' belongings including dentures, glasses, hearing aids, and prosthetic devices
• Change bed linens and maintain clean and orderly resident rooms
• Assist LN with preparing residents for transport including making phone calls and copying paperwork
• Provide 1:1 care or sitting for residents when required for patient safety
• Prepare nursing areas and resident rooms for admissions, transfers, emergencies, or discharges
• Assist in cleaning utility rooms, cleaning equipment, and preparing items for disinfection or sterilization
• Report equipment issues and other problems to nurse manager or charge nurse
• Handle clean and dirty linen appropriately and store supplies in assigned service areas
• Distribute and order supplies daily to maintain adequate stock levels in assigned units
• Dispose of solid and infectious waste according to organizational policies and procedures
• Replenish supplies in resident rooms and bathrooms as needed
• Obtain 12-lead Electrocardiograms (ECGs)
• Train and perform telemetry monitoring of patients within the inpatient unit
• Become a Point of Care Trainer within 3 months of hire
• Cross-train to additional hospital areas including Emergency Department, Labor & Delivery, and Surgical Department
• Cross-train to Senior Office Specialist/Ward Clerk positions to support high census or vacancy needs
• Initiate and participate in a Performance/Process Improvement project within the unit
• Serve as preceptor for incoming CNA staff and CNA students
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• 1 year of prior CNA experience preferred
• Current, full, unrestricted CNA license in the state of Alaska required
• Current BLS certification required
• Must submit 2 fingerprint cards upon acceptance
• Must complete and pass courses specific to unit needs including point-of-care/waived testing
