Medical Lab Technician Job in Reno, Nevada

You will work as a Medical Lab Scientist in the Core Laboratory at Renown Regional Medical Center, serving inpatient and outpatient populations of all ages. Your schedule runs Wednesday through Saturday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with every other Wednesday from 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM. This is a 4x10 day shift totaling 36 guaranteed hours per week for a 91-day assignment beginning November 1, 2026.

Your Responsibilities

• Perform quality laboratory testing across chemistry, hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis in a generalist capacity
• Report test results clearly to nursing and medical staff via direct communication or computer entry
• Communicate testing delays and assist clinical lab assistants, physicians, and nurses with technical questions
• Consider patient age when performing testing and releasing results
• Communicate effectively with diverse patient populations and their families
• Float to other areas as needed to meet organizational competency requirements
• Work 2 or 3 major holidays per schedule period and pick up one additional shift per schedule period

Required Qualifications

• Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) credential (ASCP)
• Minimum 2 years of laboratory experience
• At least one prior 13-week travel assignment
• Core Lab or generalist experience preferred; candidates with experience limited only to Microbiology or Blood Bank are not an ideal fit
• Nevada license preferred; active NV license is advantageous

Equipment Experience

Experience with the following is beneficial: Roche Cobas Pro (Chemistry), Sysmex XN with Cellavision (Hematology), Stago STAR Max (Coagulation), and UN 3000 (Urinalysis).

Additional Information

Your schedule may include weekends, holidays, and some call shifts. The facility reserves the right to call off up to 48 hours without penalty for low census per the 13-week contract, which may include full or partial shifts.

Compensation: $2,190 weekly pay.
