Medical Assistant Job in Grand Forks, ND

Join Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND as a Medical Assistant for a 13-week travel assignment. You will work under the direct or indirect supervision of a Pathologist, performing essential duties in surgical pathology and specimen preparation.

Your responsibilities include:

• Assist in the preparation and performance of surgical specimen and frozen section dissections
• Complete accurate gross description dictation and maintain precise patient identification on all specimens
• Perform surgical specimen dissection on simple to complex specimens, providing quality material for routine histology studies and specialized tests
• Perform frozen sections and maintain cryostats
• Ensure proper maintenance of equipment, adequate provision of supplies, and cleanliness of the surgical pathology gross cutting area and morgue
• Dispose of tissues and reagents according to standard operating procedures
• Perform, interpret, and report tests for which you have been validated according to standard operating procedure
• Actively participate in problem solving, quality assurance, quality control monitoring, instrument maintenance, and troubleshooting
• Keep gross bench procedure manual current and review CAP compliance
• Demonstrate effective communication skills in person and virtually to provide timely result reporting by interacting with pathologists and providers

Requirements:

• Completion of NAACLS Accredited Pathologists' Assistant Program
• Pathologists' Assistant - Certified (ASCP) or ASCP exam ready with certification obtained prior to start date

Preferred: Prior grossing experience

Assignment Details: 8-hour shifts, 91-day duration starting November 2, 2026. Weekly pay is $2,179.
