About this role
URMC Strong Memorial Hospital is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) role. You will provide direct patient care in a high-acuity stroke and neurosurgery stepdown environment, working 12-hour shifts on a rotating day/evening/night schedule, including weekends and holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver competent nursing care based on established clinical standards under nurse manager direction
- Manage on-call, callback, and charge nurse duties as unit needs require
- Perform neurological assessments including Q1 neuro checks and care of external ventricular drains (EVDs), lumbar drains, and subdural drains
- Monitor and manage patients on telemetry with advanced drip management, including 3% normal saline and cardene infusions
- Maintain arterial line care and hemodynamic monitoring
- Support patients post-procedure, including carotid endarterectomy, aneurysm coil/clip placement, deep brain stimulator (DBS) insertion, and VP shunt placement
- Participate in seizure management protocols
- Take on expanded responsibilities as charge nurse, preceptor, or committee member when assigned
Requirements:
- Minimum two years of nursing experience
- Current New York RN license required (NY licenses only)
- PCU or stepdown unit experience mandatory
- High-acuity stroke and neurosurgery background required
- Telemetry experience required
- BLS certification (American Heart Association)
- ACLS certification (American Heart Association) preferred
- NIHSS certification preferred
This 89-week assignment begins July 6, 2026. Weekly pay is $2,368.08. You will work in a tertiary care academic medical center with access to ongoing professional development and a collaborative interdisciplinary team.
