ICU - Intensive Care Unit

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour night shifts from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
• Every third weekend requirement
• Holiday requirement includes 4th of July
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2, occasionally stretching to 1:3
• 16-bed Medical ICU unit
• Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment
• Hospitalist available in-house 24/7; intensivist in-house during day hours and available via telemedicine at night
• Respiratory therapy shared with ER; RT handles all ventilator adjustments
• Centralized telemetry monitor techs not located in-house; nurses must be able to read and verify strips
• Telemetry monitors are Draeger brand
• Common diagnoses include sepsis, respiratory failure, stroke, and MI
• Experience with drips, vents, and BiPAPs required
• Must be able to titrate drips including vasopressors and sedation (Levo, Neo, Cardene, Precedex, Propofol, etc.)
• No nurse aides on unit
• Will float to lower levels of care including PCU and MedSurg; training provided
• 1 shift of ICU-specific orientation and 1 shift of PCU orientation provided
• Block scheduling not guaranteed; no self-scheduling
• Charting system: EPIC
• Navy blue scrubs required; artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience preferred; previous travel experience preferred
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• PALS and TNCC preferred
• Iowa nursing license required
• Pass/fail open book exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% required to pass
