CVICU RN Job in Richmond, VA

Join VCU Medical Center as a Registered Nurse in our 14-bed Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CVICU). You will provide specialized care to adult and geriatric patients recovering from complex cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures in a Level 1 academic facility.

Role & Responsibilities

• Manage 1–2 patients with diagnoses including CABGs, valve repair and replacements, aortic surgeries, VADs, total artificial hearts, and heart/liver/kidney transplants
• Provide post-operative recovery care for cardiothoracic and thoracic surgeries, including esophagectomy and vascular cases
• Perform invasive hemodynamic monitoring and titrate vasoactive IV medications
• Operate and provide oversight for advanced circulatory support devices: Heartmate II and III LVAD, CentriMag RVAD/LVAD, Heartware HVAD, ECMO, CRRT, IABP, and Total Artificial Heart
• Work with specialized equipment including Endotool and NXSTAGE CRRT
• Use EPIC charting system
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including IV Teams, Respiratory Services, Physical Therapy, Radiology, Pharmacy, Social Services, and Rapid Response Teams

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience with CVICU/CSICU experience at a Level 1 facility
• Level 1 trauma experience and academic facility experience required
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications
• Proficiency in CRRT, IABP, ECMO, post-op cardiothoracic surgery recovery, and invasive hemodynamic monitoring (minimum score of 3 on skills checklist)
• Skills required: Conscious Sedation, Pulmonary Artery Lines, Telemetry, Ventilators
• Virginia or compact state RN license
• BSN preferred

Schedule & Compensation

• 3x12 night shifts with self-scheduling and every other weekend coverage required
• 91-day assignment starting August 3, 2026
• Weekly pay: $2,384.64
