About this role
Down East Community Hospital is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician for an evening shift position with required weekend rotation. This 91-day travel assignment begins July 6, 2026, and offers $2,044 weekly pay.
In this role, you will perform laboratory tests and accurately report results to physicians for use in diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of diseases. You will work across all assigned laboratory areas, including hematology, immunohematology, immunology, bacteriology, microscopy, routine chemistry, and therapeutic drug monitoring.
Your responsibilities include:
- Perform phlebotomies including arterial puncture, capillary punctures, and venipunctures using age-specific criteria as appropriate
- Process specimens utilizing established protocols and technical knowledge
- Calibrate, standardize, and maintain instruments following established procedures
- Perform quality control, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting to ensure proper instrument and reagent function
- Prepare and maintain reagent supplies necessary to perform tests
- Validate and report test results accurately and in a timely manner
- Assist in the maintenance and development of laboratory policy and procedural manuals
- Assist with orientation and teaching of students and new employees
- Follow established safety practices including biohazard protocols, exposure control plans, and infection control universal precautions
You must hold an Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Medical Technology or a related specialty. Certification or registry eligibility as a Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Technician is required, along with national certification through AMT or ASCP. Knowledge of principles, methods, materials, equipment, and techniques of medical technology is essential. You must be able to frequently lift up to 50 pounds independently, have visual acuity correctable to 20/20, and possess color vision. This position carries Exposure Category I risk for exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
