PCU RN Job in Asheville, NC

You will work as a Registered Nurse on a 44-bed Progressive Care Unit at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC. This is a 91-day travel assignment with a start date of July 13, 2026. You will work three 12-hour night shifts per week from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM, earning $2,102.40 weekly.

About the Role

The PCU manages medically complex patients requiring intermediate-level care. You will provide nursing care with patient ratios of 4:1 at baseline grid and 5:1 when stretched. The unit operates with a staffing grid of 2 charge nurses/CNC, 11 RNs, 4 CNAs, and 1 HUC. Every other weekend is required.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Perform neurological and spinal assessments, including C-collar placement and TLSO brace application
• Manage chest tubes, PCA pumps, and IV infusions
• Perform lumbar drain management and feeding tube placement
• Administer blood transfusions
• Operate IV pumps, Skylift equipment, PCA pumps, chest tubes, trachs, and patient lifts
• Float to step-down and med-surg units as needed

Requirements

• RN with neuro and trauma care experience required
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Familiarity with Cerner EMR preferred

Unit Details

The PCU utilizes the Cerner EMR system. Staff maintains a team-oriented, patient-focused approach to care. Navy blue scrubs are the required dress code.
