PCU Registered Nurse Job in Wausau, WI

Aspirus Wausau Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU), a 36-bed Med Surg Intermediate Care unit with strong telemetry focus. This is a 13-week contract position starting July 20, 2026.

Shift and Schedule

• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
• 3 days per week with guaranteed 36 hours
• Every other weekend and every other holiday required

The Role

You will care for patients at a 4:1 ratio, managing primary patient assignments including insulin drips. Patient conditions include stable and weaning vents/trach, sepsis, trauma, alcohol detox, GI bleed, colostomy/ileostomy, chest tubes, TBI, orthopedic trauma, spinal cord injury, and stroke. You will float to higher acuity inpatient units as needed and will be subject to low census eligibility of 36 unbillable hours taken in hour increments.

Requirements

• Wisconsin RN License, BLS, and ACLS (AHA or ARC)
• Associate degree or certificate in nursing (Bachelor's preferred)
• Minimum 2+ years of experience in stepdown, intermediate, or PCU settings
• Ventilator and trach experience required
• ICU experience preferred
• Trauma Level II experience preferred
• At least 1 prior travel assignment required
• EPIC charting experience preferred

Compensation and Details

You will earn $2,453.76 weekly. Any color scrubs are acceptable. This contract runs 13 weeks with an end date on a Sunday.
