Med Surg RN Job in Wheeling, WV

You'll work as a Registered Nurse on a 52-bed Medical-Surgical unit at WVU Wheeling Hospital, caring for post-operative and medical patients in a private-room setting.

Schedule & Contract

• 3x12-hour shifts per week
• Day shift: 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM; Night shift: 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
• Every-other-weekend requirement (3 weekends per 6-week schedule)
• Day shifts require Saturday/Sunday; night shifts require Friday/Saturday
• Schedules made 6 weeks in advance with up to 6 time-off requests per cycle
• Holiday rotation required
• Cancellation policy: 2 shifts allowed per 13-week contract
• 91-day assignment beginning June 29, 2026
• Weekly pay: $2,229.12

Patient Care & Ratios

• Patient ratio: 1:6–7 (typically 1:7 on both day and night shifts)
• Patient populations: orthopedic post-ops, basic neuro post-ops (laminectomies, discectomies, spinal fusions), general post-ops (gallbladders, mastectomies, sleeve gastrectomies), and medical diagnoses (COPD, pneumonia, cellulitis)
• Experience with peritoneal dialysis is highly preferred

Clinical Responsibilities

• Administer drips including Heparin, PCAs with MSO4, and occasional Ativan (no cardiac drips or continuous insulin)
• Manage respiratory support: BiPAP (intermittent), CPAP, and High Flow
• Remote telemetry monitoring as needed; strip reading optional for experienced RNs
• Assess IV sites; IV Team handles all starts
• May float to other Med-Surg, Med-Surg/Oncology units, or IMC for Med-Surg overflow (no drips)

Support & Resources

• 24/7 IV team, PICC team, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy support
• Hospitalist in-house 24/7; intensivist in ICU 24/7
• Charting system: Allscripts/Sunrise EMR

Requirements

• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required; ACLS preferred
• Valid, unexpired driver's license required at submission
• Must disclose any licensing hits at time of submission
• Must reside outside 50-mile radius
• Dress code: Navy blue top and bottom with navy scrub jacket; no hoodies
