PCU - Progressive Care Unit

RN - Stepdown

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour night shifts from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM or 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
• Every other weekend requirement
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4, with 1:3 for post-surgical patients within the first 24 hours
• Float to all same level and lower levels of acuity as needed
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• BSN not required
• Minimum 1 year of experience with this patient population required
• Care for patients requiring intermediate care and downgraded CVICU patients, including those with cardiac and vascular diagnoses such as CVAs, CHF, A-fib RVR, and cath lab patients
• Unit heavily supports thoracic program, EP, cath lab, and structural heart
• Titrate drips including Amio, Nitro, Nicardipine, Epi, Cardizem, and other blood pressure management medications
• Manage and troubleshoot respiratory equipment including BiPAP, CPAP, and Nasal Cannula
• Read and interpret telemetry strips independently; remote tele techs available with hardwired and tele box capabilities
• Charge nurse on each shift; rarely takes a patient assignment
• Nurse aides and patient care techs available at a 1:18 ratio
• Hospitalist and intensivist in house 24/7 with Cardiology on call after hours
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7
• Charting system: EPIC
• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
• Driver's license required at submittal
• 1-2 shifts of unit-specific orientation tailored to experience
• Pass/fail open book exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% required
