About this role

You will work as a Registered Nurse on a Medical Surgical/Oncology unit at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center Crisis Response in Wilmington, NC. This is a night shift position with a target patient ratio of 1:6, though ratios may increase during high census periods.

Schedule and Contract Details

  • 3 x 12-hour night shifts per week
  • Every other weekend required
  • 91-day contract
  • Start date: July 6, 2026
  • Weekly pay: $1,969.92

Role Responsibilities

You will care for primarily Medical Surgical patients with an Oncology history, including adult and geriatric populations. Patient diagnoses include AKI, Sepsis, Cancer, Septic shock, Pain, OD, Malignant Neoplasms, ARF, Encephalopathy, FTT, Diabetic foot ulcers, and patients on Heparin drips. You must be prepared to administer chemotherapy and biotherapy via IV, PO, or injection.

Floating to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED, is required. You may be assigned to Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and could be required to report during a catastrophic event, mass casualty, or disaster. Attendance at monthly staff meetings is required.

Required Skills and Certifications

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (first-time travelers accepted)
  • Med/Surg, Colostomy care, Accessing Ports, Blood Product Administration
  • Central line blood draw, Peripheral Line Care/Management, PICC line management
  • Heparin, Insulin, Surgical drains, Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
  • Nasal Cannula, Non-invasive airway management, Isolation Precautions, Wound Care/Wound Vac
  • BLS certification required
  • Chemo certification (ONS/ONCC) required
  • Oncology certification preferred (OCN)
  • CPI and Charge Nurse experience preferred
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start

Additional Information

  • Orientation: 24 hours (2 shifts)
  • Unit systems: PYXIS, EPIC, SBAR
  • Navy blue and white scrubs required
  • Call required if called off on a pre-scheduled shift; called out shifts require rescheduled make-up shifts
