Opportunity:

RN - CVICU

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour night shifts with weekends scheduled as needed
• Every other weekend requirement
• No on-call or standby requirement
• 18-bed unit with mixed acuity Step Down and ICU status patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1 for fresh hearts and devices, 1:2 for ICU status patients, 1:3 for step-down status patients
• Common diagnoses include atrial fibrillation, heart blocks, bradycardia, NSTEMI, STEMI, cardiac arrest, hyper/hypotension, pulmonary embolisms, cardiogenic shock, heart surgery (CABG/valves), heart failure, and thoracic surgery (VATS, lobectomy)
• Required to titrate drips including Cardizem, Cordarone, Cardene, Nitroglycerin, Esmolol, Cleviprex, Milrinone, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Lasix, Bumex, Epinephrine, Levophed, Vasopressin, Insulin, Heparin, Aggrastat, Precedex, Propofol, Versed, and Fentanyl
• Must have experience with post-op open heart patients (6+ hours), CRRT, temporary pacemakers and post permanent pacemaker care, acute MI pre/post cath, mediastinal/chest tubes, ventilator management, hypothermia protocol, and arterial lines
• Prefer fresh open heart experience as well as IABP/Impella and hemodynamic monitoring/Swan-Ganz experience
• Rare potential to work charge on night shift; night shift charge nurses take assignments
• 1-2 PCTs per shift available on unit
• Hospitalist or intensivist in house at all times
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7 with equipment including vents, trach-vents, BiPAP, CPAP, high flow, and trilogy
• Philips monitors watched by off-unit monitor techs; RNs address alarms and read own strips every 4 hours
• Self-scheduling and block scheduling requests allowed
• Travelers float first, primarily to ACU and ICU, with potential float to Med-Surg and Tele with a maximum of 6 patients
• Royal blue scrubs required
• 1-week orientation including modules, EPIC training, and hands-on unit orientation
• Charting system: EPIC
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA)
