About this role
You'll work nights on the 28-bed acute care oncology unit at University of Virginia Medical Center, providing direct patient care to adults with hematology and oncology diagnoses. This is a 13-week contract position with a 4x12 night shift schedule.
Role Responsibilities
- Manage a patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:4 on the inpatient oncology unit
- Access and manage ports; administer chemotherapy and immunotherapy
- Support the 15-bed intermediate care Stem Cell Transplant Unit as needed per facility float policy
- Utilize Epic charting system for all documentation
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including IV, physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, social services, and rapid response
What You Bring
- Current Virginia nursing license (pending license accepted if in hand before start)
- Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience
- BLS certification and ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certification (must be attached at application or pending completion prior to start)
- ACLS preferred
- Epic charting system experience required
- BSN preferred
- References required
Schedule & Benefits
- Night shift, 36 or 48 hours available per week
- Every other weekend and every other holiday required
- Maximum 40 hours of pre-approved time off per 13-week contract
- Free-floating charge nurse available on both day and night shifts for support
- Resource nurse available 5–7 shifts per week
- Weekly pay: $2,697
- Contract duration: 91 days
- Start date: September 28, 2026
