Med Surg RN Job in Council Bluffs, IA

You will work as a Registered Nurse in the Medical-Surgical unit at CHI Health Mercy Council Bluffs, caring for patients recovering from orthopedic procedures and managing complex medical conditions.

Schedule & Shift Details

• 3x12-hour night shifts, 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
• Every third weekend required (Friday and Saturday count as weekend for night shifts)
• Self-scheduling available
• 91-day assignment
• Start date: August 17, 2026

Unit Overview

• 28 beds plus 22 overflow capacity
• Patient ratio of 1:5 with charge nurse handling assignments
• Floating required to PCU and behavioral health unit
• Work with nurse aides at 1:10 ratio; monitor techs available
• EPIC charting system

Clinical Focus

• Care for patients with total joint replacements, orthopedic procedures, COPD, diabetes, wounds, IV infusions, dementia, oncology, fractures, sepsis, and pneumonia
• Administer IV antibiotics, heparin, antithrombotics, and narcotics (no drip titration required)
• Hourly rounding and bedside shift report

Requirements

• Current RN license and BLS certification
• Valid driver's license (distance verification required)
• Must live outside 50-mile radius of facility
• Cannot be currently employed with CommonSpirit facilities
• Pass open-book orientation exam with 90% score
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas

Orientation

• First week classroom orientation followed by one 12-hour shift on unit

Compensation

• $2,306.88 weekly pay
