RN - Oncology

Job Details:

• Primary oncology unit treating all types of cancer in all phases of care from work-up to completion of therapy
• Administer inpatient chemotherapy regimens
• Provide post-operative care for uro-gyn and gyn-onc surgical population
• Serve as step-down neuro overflow unit for strokes, head bleeds, and other neurological needs
• Patient ratio of 1:5 for days, nights, and weekends
• 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule period, combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed per unit
• Regular floating may be required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
• Guaranteed 3 shifts per 13-week contract period
• Minimum 2 years of oncology experience required
• Previous charge experience and teaching hospital experience preferred
• First-time travelers accepted
• Charting system: Epic (experience preferred)
• Required certifications: BLS, Chemo (ONS/ONCC)
• Required skills include: IV therapy and infusions, administration of blood and blood products, chemotherapy administration, central line care and blood draw, infusion pump management, PCA pump management, foley catheter insertion and management, chest tube care and management, telemetry interpretation and monitoring, wound care, neutropenic precautions, isolation precautions, pain management including IV push narcotic agents, and post-surgical care
• Preferred skills include: accessing ports, management of oncologic emergencies (ATLS, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, hemorrhage), hospice care, tracheostomy care and management, radiation safety precautions, and biotherapy side effect recognition and management
• Preferred cancer type experience includes: bladder/kidney, brain, breast, colorectal, ear/nose/throat, leukemia/blood dyscrasias, liver, lung, lymphoma/non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, melanoma, multiple myeloma, ovarian/uterine, pancreatic, and prostate cancers
• Interdisciplinary support available including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, rapid response teams, radiology, and social services
