Histology Technician Job in Pittsburgh, PA

ADEX Healthcare Staffing is seeking a Histology Technician for a travel assignment at Southwest - UPMC Presbyterian/Montefiore in Pittsburgh, PA. This is a full-time role working 5 days per week, 8 hours per day, for a 91-day assignment beginning August 16, 2026.

About the Role

You will process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining, and cover slipping. Your responsibilities include:

• Embed and cut specialized tissue based on location, including minute biopsy protocols
• Perform quality control checks at each phase of processing and staining
• Ensure all tissues are embedded and cut according to department-specific protocols with proper orientation and complete sections free of folds, chatter, artifacts, or floaters
• Accurately prepare slides for microtomy using barcode labels to maintain correct patient identification
• Demonstrate progression toward working independently in an advanced staining area
• Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols
• Complete ancillary tasks including filing, cleaning, and stocking supplies

Requirements

You must have a minimum of 2 years of histotechnician experience. Required qualifications include successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program within the last 5 years OR an Associate's degree or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry.

Required certifications: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification, Basic Life Support (BLS), and Act 34. An HR credential is preferred.

Compensation

Weekly pay is $2,149.
