Histology Technician Job in State College, PA

Mount Nittany Health is seeking a Histology Technician to join our anatomic pathology team in State College, PA. You will work Monday through Friday on day shifts, with each shift lasting 8 hours over a 91-day contract period beginning September 8, 2026.

In this role, you will be responsible for the complete processing and preparation of tissue specimens for pathological examination. Your daily responsibilities include:

• Receiving and identifying tissue specimens, assigning sequential accession numbers while maintaining accurate patient identification
• Entering patient demographic information, specimen source, and physician data into laboratory systems
• Assisting the pathologist with gross examination of tissue specimens by preparing and providing labeled tissue cassettes
• Operating tissue processor equipment to prepare specimens for sectioning
• Cutting sections from embedded tissue blocks, performing staining procedures, and delivering prepared slides for microscopic examination
• Assisting with frozen section preparation immediately upon specimen receipt as needed
• Performing special histochemical staining procedures according to pathologist specifications and timeframes
• Preparing slides and anatomical materials for consultation or transfer to other laboratories
• Maintaining a properly indexed filing system for tissue slides and blocks to ensure efficient retrieval
• Managing specimen storage rotation and ensuring slides are retained for the appropriate length of time before disposal

You must hold current certification as a histotechnologist through the ASCP or possess equivalent certification. This position offers you the opportunity to work in a professional laboratory setting where precision and attention to detail are essential to patient care outcomes.
