RN - Med Surg

Job Details:

• Night shift position on a Medical Surgical/Oncology unit
• Target patient ratio of 1:6, though ratios may be higher during times of increased census
• Every other weekend required
• Contract lengths of 13-26 weeks accepted
• Call required if called off on a pre-scheduled shift; called-out shifts must be rescheduled
• Floating required to similar units and alternate care locations, including inpatient holding in the ED or any alternate medical patient care location
• Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
• Attendance at monthly staff meetings required
• Primary patient population includes general medical-surgical patients with oncology history
• Patient diagnoses include AKI, Sepsis, Cancer, Septic shock, Pain, OD, Malignant Neoplasms, ARF, Encephalopathy, FTT, Diabetic foot ulcers, and Heparin drips
• Administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy via IV, PO, or injection required
• Minimum 2 years of experience required; first-time travelers accepted
• Required skills: Med/Surg, Colostomy care, Accessing Ports, Blood Product Administration, Central line blood draw, Peripheral Line Care/Management, PICC line management, Heparin, Insulin, Surgical drains, Chest tubes, Nasal Cannula, Non-invasive airway management, Isolation Precautions, and Wound Care/Wound Vac
• Required certifications: BLS and Chemo (ONS/ONCC)
• Oncology certification (OCN) preferred
• CPI and charge nurse experience preferred
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start
• Unit systems include PYXIS, EPIC, and SBAR
• Orientation: 24 hours (2 shifts)
• Scrubs: Navy blue and white
• Interdisciplinary support available including IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, Pharmacy, and more
• Patients served include adults and geriatrics
• Daily census of 42 patients
