Histology Technician Job in Pittsburgh, PA

ADEX Healthcare Staffing is recruiting a Histology Technician for a 90-day travel assignment at Southwest – UPMC Presbyterian/Montefiore in Pittsburgh, PA. You will work Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with no weekend or holiday shifts.

Your Role

You will process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining, and cover slipping. Your responsibilities include:

• Embed and cut specialized tissue based on location, including minute biopsy protocols
• Perform quality control checks at each phase of processing and staining
• Ensure all tissues are embedded and cut according to department-specific protocols with proper orientation
• Accurately prepare slides for microtomy using barcode labels to maintain correct patient identification
• Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols
• Perform ancillary tasks such as filing, cleaning, and stocking supplies
• Demonstrate progression of skills toward working independently in an advanced staining area

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of histotechnician experience
• Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program within the last 5 years, OR an Associate's degree or at least 60 semester hours of academic credit with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry
• American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Act 34 clearance
• HR credential preferred

Compensation and Duration

This is a 90-day assignment starting September 28, 2026. You will work 40 hours per week (5x8 schedule). Weekly pay is $2,044.
