Histology Technician Job in Pittsburgh, PA

ADEX Healthcare Staffing is seeking a Histology Technician for a travel assignment at Southwest — UPMC Presbyterian/Montefiore in Pittsburgh, PA. This is a 91-day contract starting August 30, 2026.

Position Details

• Schedule: 3 days per week, 12-hour shifts
• Weekly pay: $1,948
• Setting: Hospital laboratory

Your Responsibilities

• Process and prepare surgical and autopsy tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining, and cover slipping
• Embed and cut specialized tissue based on anatomical location, including minute biopsy protocols
• Perform quality control checks at each phase of processing and staining
• Ensure all tissues are embedded and cut according to department-specific protocols with proper orientation
• Accurately prepare slides for microtomy using barcode labels to maintain correct patient identification
• Demonstrate progression of skills toward working independently in an advanced staining area
• Maintain instruments following quality control specifications and daily maintenance protocols
• Complete ancillary tasks including filing, cleaning, and stocking supplies

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience
• Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Histotechnician program within the last 5 years, OR an Associate's degree, OR at least 60 semester hours of academic credit with a combination of 12 semester hours of biology and chemistry
• American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Act 34 clearance required
• HR credential preferred
