RN - Observation Unit

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
• Night shift position with weekends as scheduled
• Every-other-weekend requirement; night weekend shifts include Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Average patient ratio of 1:6
• Must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips
• Experience with set-rate Cardizem and Amiodarone required
• Experience with TR Bands is a strong plus
• Common patient diagnoses include pre/post cath, chest pain rule-outs on heparin drips, COPD, CHF, pacers, arrhythmias, and general MedSurg diagnoses
• Set-rate drips include Cardizem and Amiodarone; occasional drips include Bumex and Lasix; drip titration is not required
• BiPAP and CPAP used for supportive therapy only; high flow oxygen not used on this unit
• Telemetry monitor techs available on the floor; RNs must independently read and interpret strips with real-time monitor access on the unit
• Charge nurse present on the unit 24/7; night charge nurse always takes patients
• Nurse aides available on unit with duties including EKGs, bladder scans, fingerstick blood sugars, ADLs, and all vitals
• Travelers are typically first to float and may be floated anywhere in the hospital including ICU and Stepdown; patients assigned within skillset only
• Unit is very busy and fast-paced with up to 6 or more discharges and admissions per day
• All time-off requests must be submitted upfront and included in the contract
• Scrub color required is Royal Blue; scrub jackets are optional but must be an actual scrub jacket - no hoodies or sweatshirts
• Charting system: EPIC
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA)
