Pediatric CVICU RN Job in San Antonio, TX

Methodist Children's Hospital is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week contract position in the Pediatric CVICU. You will work 3x12 night shifts (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.) beginning October 15, 2026, earning $1,839.60 per week.

Role Overview

You will provide direct patient care in a 24-bed pediatric critical care unit on Floor 4CT. Your responsibilities include admitting and caring for all ICU-level patients across multiple body systems: respiratory, neuro, GI, GU, plastics, burns, DKA, cardiac history, ortho, and ENT. You will manage complex equipment including ventilators, drips, chest tubes, central lines, syringe pumps, trachs, and gastrostomy tubes.

Patient Care & Procedures

Patient ratios range from 1:1 for higher acuity to 2:1 standard to 3:1 for lower step-down acuity. You will perform and assist with procedures including central line and chest tube placement, sedation, lumbar puncture, and intubation. The unit uses Meditech EMR for documentation.

Staffing Structure

Each shift includes 1 charge nurse, 5–6 RNs depending on census, and 1 utilization coordinator. You will work every other weekend. You may float to other children's units including PIMC, PSRG, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, the ER for inpatient holds, and the Pediatric ICU.

Required Qualifications

• Current RN licensure
• PALS certification
• Intubated/ventilator experience required
• ICU-level care experience required
• ECMO experience (patient care, not pump management) preferred
• CRRT experience preferred

Work Environment

Dress code requires navy blue scrubs with no t-shirts. You will work alongside a collaborative medical team in a fast-paced critical care setting. The ideal candidate is flexible, communicates effectively, and maintains a positive, friendly attitude with patients and colleagues.
