Med Surg RN Job in Brownwood, TX

You will work as a Registered Nurse on a Medical-Surgical unit at Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood. This is a 91-day travel assignment beginning November 16, 2026, with 4x12 day shifts at $2,342 per week.

Schedule and Staffing

• 36 or 48-hour weekly schedules
• One on-call shift per 6-week schedule
• Six weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (Saturday and Sunday)
• Patient ratios of 5:1 across days, nights, and weekends
• 13-bed unit with daily census of 10–13 patients

Patient Population and Clinical Focus

You will care for adults and geriatric patients. Common diagnoses include post-operative cases, orthopedic, diabetes, pneumonia, wound care, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), and urology. The unit does not include telemetry monitoring or cardiovascular drips.

Required Clinical Skills

You must demonstrate competency in accessing and managing ports, BiPAP/CPAP management, blood product administration, central line blood draws, chest tubes, colostomy and ileostomy care, continuous bladder irrigation, CVA care, feeding tube management, heparin administration, high-flow nasal cannula, insulin, ABG interpretation, isolation precautions and PPE, telemetry, and wound care including wound vacs.

Support Services

Interdisciplinary teams are available, including physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, phlebotomy, and interpretation services.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years Med Surg nursing experience
• Current travel healthcare experience
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Active Texas nursing license (must be in hand at submittal)
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications
• Allscripts/Altera charting system experience preferred but not required
• Must be located at least 150 miles from the facility

Forty orientation hours are included. You will join a facility with established protocols and collaborative support systems.
