Medical Laboratory Scientist Job in Lapeer, MI

McLaren Lapeer Region is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) for a temporary assignment. You will work day shifts on a 4x10 schedule, with every other weekend required. This 91-day assignment begins October 12, 2026.

Your Responsibilities

• Collect and prepare blood samples for laboratory testing using skin puncture and venipuncture techniques
• Enter specimen collections and patient information into the lab information system
• Verify patient information, label specimen vials, and match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes
• Process specimens according to established guidelines and quality control standards
• Assist medical technologists and pathologists in performing designated laboratory tests
• Organize blood-drawing trays, ensuring all instruments are sterile and all needles, syringes, and related items are first-time use
• Dispose of contaminated needles, blood, and other biohazard fluids or tissue in accordance with applicable laws, standards, and policies
• Maintain safe and clean working environment adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste protocols
• Assist with maintaining laboratory equipment and records following established accreditation guidelines

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of MLS experience
• ASCP certification (documentation required)
• BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross)
• Travel experience preferred
