PCU - Progressive Care Unit

Opportunity:

Registered Nurse - PCU

Job Details:

• 3x12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Weekend rotation required with holidays as needed
• Schedule is managed on a 6-week self-assisted basis through Optilink, distributed based on departmental need, patient work intensity, skill mix, and previous assignments
• Minimum 2 years of experience required; first-time travelers welcome
• Must have Cardiac PCU experience and be comfortable with 1:5 ratios
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4 with drips/BiPAP, otherwise 1:5
• Previous Charge RN experience preferred
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS; NIH preferred
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Must pass a compliance EKG exam (2 attempts allowed)
• Use of Rapid Response Teams preferred
• Nurse Assistants available 24/7; RN secretary available 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM
• Travelers may be floated to other campuses as needed
• Primary focus on cardiac patients including Congestive Heart Failure, Acute Coronary Syndrome, arrhythmias, pre and post cardiac catheterization with and without intervention, rule out myocardial infarction, syncope, and pacemaker placement
• Secondary focus on respiratory conditions such as COPD, pneumonia, and BiPAP management
• Required skills include: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry on-unit monitoring, pre/post cardiac cath, peripheral line care and management, PICC line management, managing cardiac and vasoactive drips without titration, procedural sedation administration, titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips, chest tube management (Emerson, Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, and tracheostomy management
• Work in a 30-private-bed Cardiac Medical Progressive Care unit operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with rooms remotely monitored by the Centralized Cardiac Monitoring Department
