PCU - Progressive Care Unit

Opportunity:

Registered Nurse - PCU

Job Details:

• Work 3x12-hour night shifts from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM; 4x12 schedule available by request
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block
• Must work at least 1 holiday per 13-week contract
• Self-scheduling with Kronos scheduling system
• EPIC charting system experience required
• Minimum 1 year of experience required; travel experience preferred
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Provide care for stroke and neurology patients as well as general medicine overflow on a telemetry PCU/stepdown unit
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics
• Typical patient ratio is 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
• Perform cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
• Administer IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and manage central and peripheral line care
• Administer medications including cardiac drips without titration (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, Ketamine)
• Provide respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management (CPAP, BiPAP)
• Manage potential procedures including chest tubes, PICC lines, trachs, and multi-lumen lines
• Utilize remote telemetry monitoring; monitors remain on unit with tele sitting implemented
• Maintain isolation precautions and PPE across PCU, IMC, and stepdown units
• Occasional floating to another PCU or medical-surgical level of care unit required
• Interdisciplinary support available including physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, social services, and rapid response teams
• All RTO requests must be submitted with the initial submission
• Active Virginia state or compact RN license required
