PCU - Progressive Care Unit

Opportunity:

Registered Nurse - PCU

Job Details:

• 4x12-hour day shifts from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week scheduling block
• Must work one holiday per 13-week contract
• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2-week period
• Floating within skillset required
• Ventilator experience required
• EPIC charting experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Minimum 1 year of experience required
• Charge experience preferred
• Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Patient ratio is typically 1:5 with a goal of 1:4
• Hybrid unit consisting of 10 PCU beds and 2 ICU beds
• Caring for vent/trach dependent patients including 2 beds for chronic trach patients
• Common diagnoses include DKA, COPD, Sepsis, Suicide/Overdose, Chronic respiratory failure, and Renal failure
• Patient age groups include adults and geriatrics
• Remote telemetry with monitors remaining on unit; tele sitting implemented for increased Patient Care Tech coverage
• 2-nurse assessment and bedside reporting required every shift
• May work without CNA support
• Required clinical skills include:
   - Cardiac monitoring, emergency response, and dysrhythmia interpretation and management
   - IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
   - Medication administration including cardiac drips (no titration)
   - Respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and non-invasive airway management
   - Ventilator care for chronic trach and vent patients
   - Rapid Response and Code team activation
   - Isolation precautions and telemetry settings across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown units
