PCU Registered Nurse Job in Bismarck, ND

You will work as a Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at CHI St Alexius Health Bismarck Medical Center. This is a 91-day travel assignment beginning July 27, 2026, with compensation of $2,255.04 per week.

Schedule and Expectations

• Work three 12-hour night shifts per week (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• Rotating shifts will not exceed weekly frequency
• First to float when unit needs support

Patient Care and Clinical Responsibilities

• Care for adult and geriatric patients with diagnoses including cardiac catheterizations, EP studies, pacemakers, ETOH withdrawal, COVID-19 on BiPAP, general surgical patients with cardiac history, pneumonia, acute on chronic conditions, influenza, and sepsis
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4–5 on nights, with occasional 1:5–6; PCU-level care overflow ratio of 1:3
• Titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, and Lasix
• Read and interpret cardiac strips independently
• Work with BiPAP, tracheostomies, and Airvo respiratory equipment
• Float to all areas as helping hands, PCU for full patient load, med/surg for full patient assignment, and occasional ER holds and boarding

Unit Resources and Support

• 32-bed unit with charge nurse present on both shifts
• Nurse aides and patient care technicians available with a goal ratio of 1:10
• Telemetry portable and in-room monitors with monitoring tech at the nurses station
• Electronic health record system: EPIC (preferred but not required)

Requirements and Orientation

• Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
• PCU experience required; first-time travelers who are comfortable with the role are welcome
• Two 12-hour orientation shifts during the first week
• Any color scrubs permitted
