Opportunity:
RN - Oncology
Job Details:
• Neuro Oncology unit focusing on all types of cancer in all phases of care from work-up to completion of therapy
• Patient ratio of 1:5 on days, nights, and weekends
• 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week schedule period, combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
• Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed per unit
• Regular floating may be required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
• 2 years of oncology experience required
• Previous charge experience and teaching hospital experience preferred
• Epic charting system experience preferred
• Required certifications: BLS, Chemo (ONS/ONCC)
• Administer inpatient chemotherapy regimens including IV push, continuous infusion, and oral administration
• Provide post-operative care for uro-gyn and gyn-onc surgical population
• Serve as step-down neuro overflow unit for strokes, head bleeds, and other neurological needs
• Required skills include IV therapy and infusions, administration of blood and blood products, central line care and blood draws, infusion pump management, and port care and management
• Required skills include medication administration including antibiotics, antiemetics, corticosteroids, and IV push narcotic agents
• Required skills include management of oncologic emergencies such as sepsis, symptom management including nausea/vomiting, neuropathy, altered mental status, and edema
• Required skills include professional skills such as chest tube care, colostomy care, foley catheter insertion and management, telemetry interpretation, wound care, and neutropenic precautions
• Required skills include pain management including PCA pump management, transdermal patches, and medication tolerance and dependence assessment
• Preferred skills include accessing ports, management of oncologic emergencies such as ATLS, anaphylaxis, extravasation injury, and hemorrhage
• Preferred skills include hospice care, withholding and withdrawing treatment, tracheostomy care, radiation safety precautions, and biotherapy side effect recognition and management
• Experience preferred caring for patients with bladder, kidney, brain, breast, colorectal, ear, nose and throat, leukemia, liver, lung, lymphoma, melanoma, multiple myeloma, ovarian, uterine, pancreatic, and prostate cancers
• Interdisciplinary support available including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, social services, and rapid response teams
• Guaranteed hours: 3 shifts per 13-week contract period
• Must have both Kansas and Missouri licenses or a compact license
• Home address must be at least 75 miles from facility
• Maximum of 7 days of requested time off per contract
