Job Details:

• Night shift schedule required
• Every other weekend required
• Must work 2 out of 3 winter holidays
• Longer assignments available through 01/02/2027
• Up to 40 hours of pre-approved time off available per 13-week contract
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Previous charge experience preferred
• BSN preferred
• Self-scheduling unit
• Patient age groups include infants, pediatrics, and adolescents
• Experience with Epic charting system required
• Trauma Level I experience required
• Patient ratio experience of 1:4 required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS
• Virginia nursing license required; pending licenses accepted
• 50-mile radius rule applies to this unit
• Provide preoperative and postoperative care for pediatric surgical patients in a 10-bed unit with an additional 4-bed Pediatric Surgical Observation Unit (PSOU)
• Deliver specialized postoperative care for pediatric patients requiring overnight observation or extended recovery up to 23 hours following surgery
• Perform ongoing assessments, manage pain and recovery, and provide patient and family education
• Coordinate safe discharge planning and collaborate with anesthesia, surgery, and multidisciplinary teams
• Apply strong clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills to recognize and respond to changes in patient condition
• Required skills include: End-Tidal CO2 monitoring, accessing/managing ports, airway assessment, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care/management, emergency medications, IV vasopressors, malignant hyperthermia protocol, management of pediatric patients, Phase I and Phase II PACU recovery, procedural sedation administration/monitoring, PICC line care and management, and pre/post operative procedures
