PACU Registered Nurse Job in Wausau, WI

Aspirus Wausau Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). You will provide direct patient care in a 14-bay unit, managing post-operative stabilization and recovery for patients across multiple surgical specialties.

Role Responsibilities

• Monitor and stabilize patients in the immediate post-anesthesia period
• Manage patient ratios of 1:2 in a high-volume unit seeing approximately 35 patients daily
• Prepare ICU patients for transfer to intensive care settings
• Document care using Epic electronic health record system
• Work with surgical cases including general surgery, spine and neuro, GI, ENT, cardiac, peripheral vascular, and orthopedics

Schedule and Expectations

• 4x10 day shifts with variable start times (7:30 AM, 8:00 AM, or 9:00 AM)
• 40 hours per week
• On-call requirement: one night per week for 4 weeks out of every 6-week cycle, with 30-minute response time
• Every 5th weekend on-call (call shift starts 11:00 AM)
• Holiday rotation required
• May be placed on low census or on-call status

Required Qualifications

• Current Wisconsin RN License
• Minimum 2+ years of PACU experience
• Recent hospital experience required
• Post-cardiac and pediatric experience needed
• AHA BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications
• Associate Degree or Certificate in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree preferred
• Previous electronic charting experience required; Epic experience strongly preferred
