Med Surg RN Job in Lafayette, LA

You'll work as a Registered Nurse on a major trauma unit at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center, caring for adult and geriatric patients. This is a 91-day travel assignment with 3x12-hour night shifts at $2,044.80 per week, starting May 11, 2026.

Role Details:

• Patient ratio of 6:1 on days, nights, and weekends
• 12-hour orientation period required
• Float requirement to all other inpatient units (agency nurses pulled first)
• Weekend coverage required
• Work every other holiday
• No scheduling requests guaranteed
• May be assigned to Emergency Team during emergency events with expectation to stay until event passes

Clinical Responsibilities:

You'll care for patients with multi-trauma, traumatic brain injury, stroke, sepsis, epidural hematomas, and orthopedic trauma. You'll assist with procedures including craniotomy, spinal fusions, ORIF, muscle flaps, and skin grafts. You'll work with specialized equipment including traction, external fixators, PCA pumps, wound vacs, central lines, and chest tubes.

Requirements:

• 2 years of nursing experience in Med Surg specialty
• Travel experience required
• Neurosurgery experience required
• Louisiana or Compact nursing license upon submission
• Current NURSYS report within 4 weeks of submission
• Required certifications: BLS, Blood product administration, PICC line management, Starting IVs, Pre/Post Neuro surgery, TBI management, Ortho trauma, Surgical drains, Chest tubes, Isolation precautions
• AHA certifications required
• Preferred certifications: ACLS, NIHSS
• Must live over 65 miles from facility (no local travelers)
• Strict attendance policy—no call-ins allowed
