PACU RN Job in Hilo, HI

You will provide direct care to patients throughout the post-anesthesia recovery process, including pre-operative assessment, Phase I recovery, and Phase II discharge preparation at Hilo Medical Center.

Your responsibilities:

• Monitor patients in Phase I and Phase II post-anesthesia recovery
• Assess incision sites, track body temperature, and evaluate vital signs and other indicators of patient stability or complications
• Apply critical care skills to support post-surgical patients and identify early signs of adverse events
• Operate equipment including Meditech, PCA Pumps, Pyxis, Braun IV Pumps, Cryocuff, SCDs, Bair PAWS Warmers, HP Monitors, and Phillips Monitors
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge of anesthesiology and Phase I recovery care

Schedule and staffing:

• Rotating shifts varying between 8, 10, and 12 hours
• Days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
• Shifts may rotate between ASU and PACU units
• On-call duties 0–3 times per month, including 8-hour night shifts and 24-hour weekend/holiday on-call
• No guarantee of specific hours or shift preferences

Required qualifications:

• RN with active Hawaii state license (must be active by start date)
• Valid BLS and ACLS certification from the American Heart Association
• 2+ years of critical care experience as an RN in a hospital setting (ER or ICU experience may substitute for PACU-specific background)

Preferred qualifications:

• PALS credential from the American Heart Association (may be required)
• Specialty-related certifications such as NIHSS and TNCC

Assignment details:

• 91-day travel assignment
