ICU RN Job in Council Bluffs, Iowa

CHI Health Mercy Council Bluffs is seeking an RN for a 12-bed Medical ICU. You will work three 12-hour night shifts per week from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM on a 91-day travel assignment beginning August 3, 2026. Every third weekend and holiday coverage (including July 4th) are required. There is no on-call or standby requirement.

Unit Details

• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2, occasionally stretching to 1:3
• Charge nurse present each shift with an assignment
• Hospitalist on-site 24/7; intensivist in-house during day hours and available via telemedicine at night
• Respiratory therapy shared with ER; RT handles all ventilator adjustments
• Centralized telemetry monitor techs are off-site; you must read and verify Draeger strips independently
• No nurse aides on the unit
• Charting via EPIC

Clinical Expectations

• Experience with drips, ventilators, and BiPAPs required
• Must titrate drips including vasopressors and sedation (Levo, Neo, Cardene, Precedex, Propofol, and others)
• Common diagnoses: sepsis, respiratory failure, stroke, and MI

Orientation and Flexibility

• One shift of ICU-specific orientation and one shift of PCU orientation provided
• Will float to lower levels of care including PCU and Med-Surg with training
• Block scheduling is not guaranteed; no self-scheduling

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience preferred
• Previous travel experience preferred
• Active Iowa nursing license
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (required)
• PALS and TNCC (preferred)
• Navy blue scrubs required; artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas
• Pass/fail open-book exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% required to pass
