Med Surg RN Job in Des Moines, IA

You will work as a Registered Nurse on a 30-bed Medical Surgical unit at UnityPoint - Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines, IA. This is a temporary position with a 91-day duration, starting August 17, 2026.

Schedule & Compensation

• 4x12 night shifts
• Work every third weekend
• No on-call responsibilities
• $2,732 weekly pay

Role Details

You will care for post-operative patients recovering from hip and knee replacements, mastectomies, and abdominal surgeries. Your patient ratio will be 1:4–5. You may float across all campuses as required. Duties include administering drips such as PCA and Heparin.

Required Qualifications

• Active Iowa license or compact/multistate license
• BLS certification (AHA)
• 24 months of Medical Surgical experience in a hospital or medical center setting
• PCA and Heparin experience
• EPIC EMR experience
• Skills checklist specific to Medical Surgical or Medical Surgical/Telemetry
• Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

• Post-operative surgical experience
• Patient care experience with hip and knee replacements, mastectomies, and abdominal surgeries
• Professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, CNO, or COO within the last 24 months

Additional Requirements

You must be available to work 1–2 of the upcoming Summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed.
