RN - Med Surg Orthopedic

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour night shifts with shift times of 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM or 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
• Self-scheduling available
• Weekend requirement: every third weekend, with Friday and Saturday considered the weekend for night shifts
• Patient ratio of 1:5 with nurse aide/patient care tech support at a 1:10 ratio
• Unit capacity of 28 beds plus 22 overflow beds
• Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment
• Monitor techs located in ICU; monitors available at the main nurses station on the unit
• RNs are not required to titrate drips; common drips include Heparin, IV antibiotics, antithrombotics, and narcotics
• Common diagnoses and patient types include total knees, total hips, shoulder replacements, COPD, diabetes, wounds, IV infusions, dementia, oncology, hip and ankle fractures, sepsis, pneumonia, cholelithiasis, ambulatory dysfunction, appendicitis, acute respiratory distress, CHF, and ETOH/drug abuse
• First to float within scope when floating is required
• Scrub color requirement: Navy Blue
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
• Orientation consists of one week of classroom orientation followed by one 12-hour shift on the unit
• Unit focuses on hourly rounding and bedside shift report
• Travelers are expected to be flexible, self-directed, and open to learning
• Charting system: EPIC
• Required certification: BLS
• Valid driver's license required at submittal
• Trauma Level 3, Acute Care Setting
