ICU - Intensive Care Unit

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour night shifts from 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
• Every third weekend requirement
• Holiday requirement includes the 4th of July
• No on-call or standby requirement
• 16-bed Medical ICU unit with nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:2, occasionally stretching to 1:3
• Common diagnoses include sepsis, respiratory failure, stroke, and myocardial infarction
• Additional patient cases include DKA, STEMI, atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response, COPD exacerbation, and pulmonary embolism
• Required to titrate drips including vasopressors and sedation (Levophed, Neo, Cardene, Precedex, Propofol, etc.)
• Must be proficient with ventilators and BiPAP management; respiratory therapy handles all adjustments
• Required to read and verify telemetry strips; centralized monitor techs provide initial readings
• Tele monitors are Drager brand
• Charting system is EPIC
• Float requirement to lower levels of care including PCU and Med/Surg; training provided
• Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment; no nurse aides on unit
• Hospitalist available 24/7 in-house; intensivist in-house during day hours and available via telemedicine at night
• No self-scheduling; block scheduling cannot be guaranteed
• 1 shift of ICU-specific orientation and 1 shift of PCU orientation provided
• Must wear navy blue scrubs
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
• Pass/fail open book exam during orientation; must score 90% or higher to pass
• Preferred 2 years of ICU experience with proficiency in drips, vents, and BiPAP
• Previous travel experience preferred
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• PALS and TNCC preferred
• Iowa nursing license required
• Driver's license required at submittal
