Occupational Therapy Assistant Job in Abilene, TX

You will work as an Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) in a long-term care setting at Avir at Coronado in Abilene, Texas. This is a temporary position running for 91 days, starting July 13, 2026.

Your Role

You will execute specialized therapy plans, guiding patients through therapeutic exercises and activities designed to improve motor skills and coordination. You will teach patients how to perform Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)—such as bathing, dressing, and eating—using adaptive techniques tailored to their needs.

You will instruct patients and families on the proper use of adaptive equipment, including reachers, mobility aids, and modified kitchen utensils. Recording detailed progress notes, behavioral observations, and safety concerns is essential; you will report these findings to the supervising occupational therapist.

Key Responsibilities

• Execute therapeutic exercises and activities under OT supervision
• Teach ADL techniques and adaptive strategies
• Demonstrate and train patients and families on adaptive equipment
• Document patient progress, behavioral changes, and safety concerns
• Provide emotional encouragement to patients
• Train caregivers on home program assistance
• Prepare and maintain treatment areas and equipment
• Assist with scheduling and billing duties as needed

Schedule and Benefits

You will work 5 days per week on day shift (8-hour shifts). There are no on-call responsibilities and no weekend requirements. Your weekly pay is $1,733.

Qualifications

You must hold a minimum of 2 years of OTA experience in a long-term care setting. A Texas state license or compact license is required. Director of Rehabilitation (DOR) experience is preferred.
