PCU RN Job in Asheville, NC

Join Mission Hospital's Progressive Care Unit as a registered nurse on a 91-day travel assignment. You'll work three 12-hour night shifts per week (6:45 PM–7:15 AM) in a 44-bed unit dedicated to step-down and progressive care patients requiring close monitoring and skilled intervention.

Your Role

You will provide direct patient care with a standard patient ratio of 4:1 at grid and 5:1 when the unit is stretched. The unit staffing includes 2 charge nurses, 11 RNs, 4 CNAs, and 1 health unit coordinator per shift, supporting a collaborative care environment.

Clinical Responsibilities

• Perform neurological and spinal assessments, including C-collar placement and TLSO brace management
• Manage chest tubes, PCA pumps, and intravenous infusions
• Assist with lumbar drain and feeding tube placement
• Administer blood transfusions
• Operate specialized equipment including IV pumps, Skylift patient lifts, PCA pumps, chest tubes, and tracheostomy equipment
• Float to step-down and med-surg units as needed to support hospital census

Requirements and Environment

You must hold current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications. Neuro and trauma care experience is required. The unit uses Cerner EMR, and navy blue scrubs are the dress code. You'll work every other weekend as part of the regular schedule.

Assignment Details

This is a 91-day backfill position beginning July 20, 2026. Weekly pay is $2,277. You'll be based in Asheville, North Carolina at Mission Hospital, a full-service medical center.
