Job Details:

• Work varied 12-hour shifts starting between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM
• Every other weekend requirement
• Rotate holidays with core staff, including one major holiday
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Position will float between Bryan and College Station campus (16 minutes apart)
• May float to College Station as needed in a helping hands capacity without an assignment
• First to float designation applies
• 3-shift orientation in the ER
• Must have 2 or more years of emergency room experience
• Must have worked in a facility with similar patient volume, trauma level, and size
• Must pass Advanced Dysrhythmia exam (83%) before signing contract with three attempts allowed
• May be asked to precept as needed by the unit
• Level III Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center with comprehensive capabilities
• 30 beds with 2 trauma bays and 24 acute beds
• Treat an average of 135 patients daily
• Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: general acute care 1:3-4, Level I traumas 1:1 or 2:1, TNK 1:1 for first hour, vertical care 1:6-8
• Common diagnoses include chest pain, nausea and vomiting, fever, pediatric URI symptoms, geriatric altered mental status, and trauma cases including GSW, MVAs, and assaults
• Pediatric patients make up 10-15% of patient population
• Common drips include Diltiazem, Cardene, Nitro, Propofol, Fentanyl, and Levophed
• EMR system: PulseCheck or Picis; charting system: MEDITECH
• RNs monitor their own telemetry strips
• Respiratory therapy is assigned to the ER 24/7 and handles ABGs
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NIHSS, PALS (AHA), TNCC
• Scrub color: Navy; undershirts must be navy; scrub jackets are optional but must be navy
