Operating Room RN Job in Des Moines, IA

UnityPoint – Iowa Methodist Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Operating Room in Des Moines, IA. This is a 91-day travel assignment with a flexible start date of September 21, 2026, compensated at $2,672 weekly.

Role Overview

You will work in a Level 1 trauma center operating room with a 1:1 patient ratio, managing an average of 35–50 surgical cases per day. The facility operates 16 OR suites with 12–14 running routinely. You will be responsible for both scrubbing and circulating across all service lines and required to float across all campuses as needed.

Shift & Call Responsibilities

Your assignment involves a 3x12 rotating schedule. On-call duties include up to 1 overnight per week and 3 weekends per 13-week contract, with every 4th weekend required. Weekend call runs from the end of Friday shift until 6:30 AM Monday. You must work 1–2 summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed.

Service Lines & Special Equipment

The OR handles diverse specialties: cardiac/peripheral vascular, neuro, orthopedics (primarily trauma), robotics, gynecology, urology, general, pediatrics, transplants, ENT, and plastics. Equipment includes 3 Da Vinci robots, Stealth technology for neuro navigation, and Synthes or Stryker instrumentation for ortho trauma. Turnovers average less than 20 minutes.

Requirements

• 24 months current OR experience required
• Circulating and scrub experience required; scrubbing highly preferred
• General, Da Vinci robotics, pediatrics, and trauma case experience required
• Neurology, orthopedics, gynecology, urology, transplants, plastics, ENT, and vascular experience highly preferred
• Trauma Level I experience highly preferred; Level II required
• EPIC electronic medical systems experience within the previous 3 years required
• Active Iowa nursing license required
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Completed travel assignment within the previous 15 months required (no first-time travelers)
