ED RN Job in Bakersfield, CA

You will work as a Registered Nurse in the Emergency Department at Memorial Hospital – Bakersfield, serving a mixed patient population of adults and pediatric patients. This is a 126-day travel assignment beginning August 31, 2026.

Schedule and Shift Details

• 3 twelve-hour shifts per week on a rotating schedule
• Available shift times: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 11:00 AM – 11:00 PM, 3:00 PM – 3:00 AM, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, or mid shifts 3:00 PM – 3:30 AM
• No block scheduling; you must remain flexible with shift assignments
• Four weekend shifts required per month (can be arranged as one per week or two every other week)
• Expected to work holidays unless your contracted time off falls during a holiday
• No on-call requirement; standby may be offered for low census with 30-minute response time if called

Role Responsibilities

• Float within the ER department as needed, including the Pediatric ER
• Work in an adult ER with 36 treatment areas and a pediatric ER with 12 treatment areas plus 8 fast-track pods
• Handle triage duties and basic EKG interpretation
• Manage patient ratios: ICU 1:2, Pediatric 1:4, Adult 1:4, procedural sedation 1:1
• Support approximately 325 patient visits daily across both departments
• Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, asthma, abdominal pain, fractures, substance abuse, and psychiatric holds

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years ER experience required; no first-time travelers accepted
• Experience with both pediatric and adult patients (approximately 50% of patient population is pediatric)
• Triage experience required
• Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, NIHSS
• Critical care RNs will complete additional STEMI and procedural sedation curriculum
• BSN not required

• Charting system: Cerner
• Phillips telemetry with monitor tech support available
• Phlebotomy team manages blood draws
• Navy blue scrubs required; no hoodies, sweatshirts, or sweat jackets

Compensation

Weekly pay: $2,799.36
