About this role

BJC West – Saint Lukes South Hospital is seeking a Registered Nurse for its Progressive Care Unit (PCU) float pool. You will work 3x12 hour night shifts over a 91-day assignment beginning August 3, 2026, earning $2,212.53 weekly.

Role Overview

As a float pool RN, you will not be assigned to a single home unit. Instead, you will rotate across approximately 5 units spanning Med/Surg Intermediate, PCU, Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown, and other metro campuses as needed. You will manage a patient ratio of 1:6 and may be assigned charge RN duties or holiday shifts per unit requirements. Eight weekend shifts (any combination of Friday, Saturday, or Sunday) are required per 6-week schedule period. No on-call is required, and block scheduling is not available. You are guaranteed a minimum of 3 shifts per 13 weeks.

Required Experience & Credentials

You must have 1 to 2 years of nursing experience; first-time travelers are accepted. Previous charge experience is preferred. Current BLS and NIHSS certifications are required; ACLS is preferred. You must hold a Kansas, Missouri, or compact nursing license.

Clinical Skills & Knowledge

  • Cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring
  • Post-MI and pre/post cardiac catheterization care
  • IV insulin protocols, heparin protocols, cardiac drips (non-titrated)
  • Central line, PICC line, and peripheral IV management; phlebotomy
  • Feeding tube and renal failure management; continuous bladder irrigation
  • Chest tubes, surgical drains, PCA pumps
  • BiPAP/CPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, tracheostomy management
  • ABG interpretation, non-invasive airway support, isolation precautions, wound care and wound vac
  • Blood product administration and port access
  • Rapid Response Team protocols

Patient Population

You will care for adults with diagnoses including heart failure, myocardial infarction, stroke, COPD, pulmonary embolism, bacteremia, cellulitis, hematuria, seizures, and alcohol withdrawal.

Support & Systems

You will use the Epic charting system and have access to interdisciplinary support from respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, radiology, rapid response teams, and pharmacy.
