Registered Nurse - PCU

Job Details:

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
• Staffing ratio of 1:3-4 patients
• Work in a Surgical PCU with near ICU-level acuity caring for adult patients
• Patient population includes ENT (neck dissections, mandibulectomy), thoracic (esophagectomy, lobectomy, pneumonectomy), general surgery (pancreatic, bowel/liver resections), urology (urinary diversions, cystectomies, RPLND), and medical overflow
• Required certifications: ACLS and BLS
• Proficiency in cardiac monitoring and management of non-titratable cardiac drips required
• Must be skilled in chest tube management, fresh trach care, feeding tube care and management, epidural management, IV insulin protocols and titration of insulin drips, external BiPAP/CPAP, total laryngectomy, and doppler flap checks
• Preferred experience includes arterial and central line management, fresh tracheostomy and laryngectomy care, chest tubes and variety of surgical drains, care of inpatient post-op patients, and enteral feedings
• Charting system: Cerner (preferred)
• Previous charge experience preferred; charge nurse responsibilities may be required based on operational needs with training and resources provided
• Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Weekend coverage required; travelers are expected to work every other weekend per contract with 6 weekends per 13-week contract
• Floating is required and may include different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) at both University and Methodist Hospitals - refusal to float may result in contract termination
• First-time travelers accepted
• Precepting students or allowing students to shadow may be required during assignment
• 48 orientation hours provided
• Unit supported by physical therapy, respiratory services, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and other interdisciplinary staff
