Job Details:

• 13-week contract on a MedSurg/General Surgery unit
• Shift options: 3x12s or 4x12s (4x12 preferred), 7:00 AM - 7:30 PM
• Every other weekend required with holiday rotation and call rotation
• Patient ratios: 1:6 (occasionally 1:7)
• Minimum 3 years of experience highly preferred; first-time travelers accepted but not preferred
• Required certifications: SC or Multi-State/Compact RN license, BLS; ACLS preferred
• NIHSS certification required
• On-call rotation required
• Candidates available to work holidays are a priority
• Charting system: Epic (experience required)
• Scrub color: Royal blue or white (for RNs)
• Parking: Free
• Patient age groups served: Adolescents, Adults, and Geriatrics
• Daily census: 35 patients; 36-bed unit
• Common patient diagnoses include general surgery cases (80% of patients), including thyroidectomy, mastectomy, hiatal hernia repair, cholecystectomy, colon resection, nephrectomy, hysterectomy, bladder sling, penile implants, cystoscopy/TURBT, MVA blunt trauma, debridement/skin grafts, and GI bleeds
• Special procedures include rounding with surgeons, preoperative HibiClens baths, and facilitating same-day post-surgical mobility
• Special equipment includes BiPAP/CPAP, wound vac, drains/tubes, remote telemetry monitoring, pressure reduction surface beds, IV pumps with central line capability, and continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
• Required skills include central line blood draws, chest tube management, blood product administration, heparin and insulin administration, telemetry monitoring, tracheostomy care, wound care/wound vac, PICC line management, and use of rapid response/code teams
• Interdisciplinary support available including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, rapid response teams, and more
• Guaranteed hours: Facility may cancel traveler one shift per two-week period
• Orientation: 16 hours
• Block scheduling available at manager's discretion
