PACU - Post Anesthesia Care

Opportunity:

Registered Nurse - PACU

Job Details:

• 4 x 10-hour day shifts with 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM start times
• No weekend shifts required
• Float required to other CPMC campuses as needed based on census
• Patient ratio of 2:1 for days, nights, and weekends
• 32-room unit with a daily census of 40-50 patients
• Provide individualized nursing care using the nursing process for geriatric, adult, adolescent, pediatric, and infant patients from admission through discharge
• Apply knowledge of peri-anesthesia standards of care, airway management, nursing assessment parameters, and pharmacology including doses, purpose, interactions, side effects, and medication reactions
• Manage and monitor a wide range of clinical procedures including arterial lines, chest tubes, central lines, PCA pumps, and ventilated patients
• Perform airway assessment and management including placement of oral/nasal airways, extubation, and fresh tracheostomy care
• Administer and monitor conscious sedation, monitored anesthesia care (MAC), and procedural sedation
• Recognize and manage dysrhythmias, administer emergency medications, antiarrhythmics, IV vasopressors, and anticoagulation therapy
• Support post-operative patients across a wide variety of surgical specialties including neuro/spine, ortho, vascular, cardiac, thoracic, transplant, plastics, urology, and ophthalmology
• Implement malignant hyperthermia protocol, hypothermia protocol, and hyperglycemia/hypoglycemia protocols as needed
• Utilize Epic charting system (required)
• Interdisciplinary support available including interpretation services, rapid response teams, and pharmacy
• 2 years of PACU RN experience required, preferably in a high acuity care hospital; ICU experience required
• Cath Lab experience preferred
• Trauma Level I and Level II experience preferred
• Travel experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA), PALS
• Valid California RN licensure required
